Holiday Time: Where Do You Plan to Go This Year?

Topics: Selling, Mortgage Broker, Health and Wellbeing 0

With international travel closed right now – and potentially for a good part of this year – Australians are turning to local and regional travel this holiday season. Not only is it a fantastic way to see our beautiful country, it’s also an opportunity to support local, those businesses that may be struggling because of the economic impact of COVID-19. We asked some of the Mortgage Express brokers to tell us about their holiday plans, and we hope you feel inspired to get out and explore your own backyard too!

I am blessed to live in Western Australia and have Scarborough Beach on my front doorstep. Western Australia is a beautiful part of Australia and (in my humble opinion) has the best beaches in the world! Cheryl (my wife) and I are active members of Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club and you will find us down at Scarborough Beach most days, marvelling at its breathtaking beauty.

We love travelling, whether it be exploring Western Australia or visiting other parts of the world. Our holidays last year were spent camping in North West Western Australia and this year, we’re housesitting in Mackay for 6 months. We’re excited to have a chance to explore this part of Queensland.

Our family plans to visit regional Victoria this year for a couple of family trips. We can’t wait to eat the food and pan for gold in Sovereign Hill, which is one of our kids’ favourite places to go! We’re also planning to extend our stay at Port Douglas in QLD with the platinum conference later this year, to reacquaint ourselves with one of our favourite holiday regions.

I love my work, I love that it gives me flexibility to do the things I love - travel, music, sunshine and time with family and friends. Covid put a halt to that but now it’s time to get around our beautiful country.

I have just returned from a long weekend in Glenelg, SA with my brother and his family, off to Sydney in a fortnight to visit one of my best friends and enjoy what the city has to offer, and a week later to Queensland for 10 days of R & R with my family with a sneaky trip to Byron Bay for Bluesfest.

I plan on traveling to far North Queensland and WA by the end of the year. It’s all about work/life balance and I also feel good as am doing my bit for our amazing country!

I was lucky enough to explore the stunning Cocos Keeling islands late last year. It's an Australian territory and so worth the effort. This year will bring a trip to Exmouth in our new camper to swim with the whales and snorkel the Ningaloo reef. Then I will also be lucky enough to explore the Northern territory in July and the wonderful landscapes. At first the thought of no overseas holidays was disappointing, but we have the world right here with so many varied beautiful places to explore. There's really no need to go anywhere else!

After purchasing my unit in Palm beach December 2019, I was only able to visit twice before COVID. After a very hectic year of work, I am really looking forward to being able to travel again after a year of border closures. It will be particularly nice to escape the cold Victorian winter and I can't wait to lie in the sun and dine out at the local cafes. We also hope to take a day trip up to Caloundra to visit family. I have booked a week for March, April, June and August.

In July, we're attending a wedding in Port Douglas that has been postponed 3 times! We are looking forward to this as many are Barry’s work colleagues from Melbourne who we have not seen for over a year. We have a road trip planned and have booked at Cooktown for 3 days.

Got plans of your own?

What do you have planned this holiday season? Hopefully it’s something wonderful and others will feel inspired to get out and explore too. It really is time to enjoy our own country and support our local tourism industry.

And if you’re a Queenslander, don’t forget to check out this awesome initiative between Tourism Tropical North Queensland and local government. They’ll be making available 15,000 vouchers worth $200.00 (inc. GST) each to Queensland residents to enjoy tourism experiences in Cairns and Great Barrier Reef.

Don't forget to check out what exciting offers your local Tourism Office has to offer, or any other state in Australia should you wish to go there. The industry needs your support and wants you to plan a visit.

There’s never been a better time to travel in Australia!
